Our Food

Meat

Most of our meat is sourced from an excellent local butcher. In the fridge we will generally have his smoked back and home cure bacon.

In the freezer we will have rib eye steaks, chicken supremes, locally made burgers, mince steak and fantasic local sausages. These are supplemented with regular commercial brand names in mainly price marked packs to guarantee best value prices.

We also stock westcountry ham and pork sausages in the fridge.

Dairy

Best of local

Many of our dairy products come from Trewithian Diary including milk, butter, natural youghurt and clotted cream. Other regular products include cheddar, mild and mature as well as some cracking Cornish camembert, Cornish Blue and two types of brie.

We also stock a range of savoury biscuits called POPTI, which include parmesan, seaweed and Mediterranean varieties as well as multiseed crackers and a rather toothsome sourdough cracker.

Fish

Nearly all our fish comes Newlyn and St Ives and will have been caught either by inshore day boats or netters and trawlers in the Western Approaches.

We keep a stock of hake, haddock and pollack when it is available. We vacuum pack and freeze it on the day of arrival in sensible sized portions. Frozen fish is every bit as good as freshly delivered and can be picked from our freezer on the day it is needed.

During the main part of the season we will extend the choice of fish depending on what is available. This may include Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) certified Cornish hake as well as pollack, megrim sole, MSC Cornish sardines, John Dory, lemon sole, monk fish, haddock and many more in season fish and shellfish.

Sample easy fish recipes available, full instructions for cooking and picking crab and lobster. The latter are available to order cooked with 24 business hours notice and lobsters are available from the local boats depending on sea conditions and availability.

Drop in and ask about our fish. You may be surprised how easy it is.
